Me Made May 13...Conclusion..

It's payday...yey!, it's Friday...yey!, it's the end of MMMay13...booo!
This was my first me made pledge and I managed to stick to stick to my goals and I really enjoyed it!
Compared to a 'normal' month I've squeezed in loads more makes and although I still dont have quite enough me mades to fill in a whole 4 weeks of wears it was so nice to really get into wearing the things I've made and give refashioning a good old think about too (I now have a quite a few bits in mind)
For the last couple of days I managed to squeeze in another wear of this top and a few more of my bows not epic but enough to keep me up to pledge!
I also managed to use all of the fabric stash I had in mind at the beginning.
My favourite wear was probably my striped Dixie dress

and my favourite make was most def my PJ bottoms, it's still been so chilly at night so these have been super cosy.

Looking back at my posts I noticed how truey awful most of my photos have been, I'm going to blame this on the fact that a couple of months ago I had my phone stolen so have been using the oldest iphone ever with no access to instagram or other photo apps which I'd usually use and apart from having time at the weekends I am far too lazy to be getting the camera out for a proper shot.
I'll definitely be making up for this now I have a new phone in my paws :)

Thank you Zoe for hosting MMMay13...it's been fab!

Me Made May 13...Week 4...

('scuse me munching my breakfast)

4.2 Sock Bun! Theres a real life "refashioned" sock in there!

Week 4 me made make....

I'm pleased I got around to using this fabric, it's a bit mad but theres just something about it (I think its those pineapples) A really easy make, I didn't add too much fabric as I didn't want it to be too gathered, I'm really pleased with how it turned out

Week 4 = another good one, I managed to stick to my goal, just 3 more MMMay 13 days to go!

Dixie Stripes....we have a dress!

So after all my research and finding this amazing pattern I got stuck into giving knit a go....

I changed the settings on my sewing machine to cope with this new fabric...presser foot pressure, zig zag stitch....erm why is this not working??? Ah the needle. It's amazing how it just doesn't work to use a normal needle, something about the ball point pushing the thread out of the way rather than poking through them? I don't really understand it but stretch needles work :)
See those annoying stitched where it wasn't picking up the bobbin thread on one side...

Anyways, once that was rectified the stitching was easy peasy. I stabilised the shoulders with a bit of bias binding...

The whole process was pretty much stress free, I was quite surprised (and delighted) by this.

About an hour later I had a gorgeous stripey dress!

I LOVE this!!

I shortened the sleeves from the pattern, and really like this length. After reading a few other blogs about htis pattern I also lengthened the bodice by 2 inches and the skirt length by about the same. I *tried* to match up the stripes.....nearly.....

My favourite part to sew was the neckline, it looks like a real life tshirt neckline!....

Safe to say I am a knit convert, it's really not that scary after all. I'll be sewing a up a few more of this pattern too....thank you Dixie!!!

Dixie Stripes....

Along with many, many others I love some good stripes going on. I probably own far too many striped tops already but that doesnt mean I can't have a striped dress now does it?!

I've been going a bit Pinterest mad with them, these are just a few of my favourites...

I recently purchased this cute little dress pattern from Dixie DIY.

I'm a little terrified about sewing with knits but I've done some research and I feel like I'm ready to give this dress a go. So I've bought myself some two way stretch navy and white stripes! Yey! They are most like the fabric in the last pic above but Im hoping my dress will look a little like the one above that so I've adapted the pattern to have short sleeves.

Wish me luck!

hello betty bow: posting parcels....

It's so exciting when you get more and more orders coming through.
This big package of Dolly headband bows are off across the pond to NYC, and I've recently posted bows off to Hollywood, Hawaii and Malaysia!
If only I could find a way to hand deliver each bow.............

Spotty Sorbetto...

Here comes another one!
The Sorbetto is so quick and easy to sew up I just can't resist it, and you only need a small amount of fabric so it's perfect for stash busting.
I love this pink polka dot cotton and just for a bit of a difference I omitted the front pleat and added some cute little bows to the shoulder (I added bows? That's odd....) This one also has some more self made bias binding to match.

Me Made May 13...Week 3...

 Working the fashion show...daaaaaling
Finally warm anough for peep toes!

3.2 Polka dot one hour skirt
Totally forgot to do an outfit photo so this will have to do
3.3 Sorbetto Dress

I love the Sorbetto top so much I've got just a few more planned. Then I read this blog post by Megan Nielson and thought, hold on, I could totally do that to a Sorbetto...so I did, and I love it even as much as the top! I even used my own bias binding...ooh fancy :)
This design will be perfect for a few little beach dresses for our summer holiday, so expect a few more of these along with the tops.
Theres loads of Sorbetto variations out there, currently loving this high low hem design by Miss P. So I think this counts as my 1 me make for this week too :)
Week 3 = I just squeezed in 3, what with the make so I think I get a 'must try harder' nudge for next week.

Bias Binding.....

I've started to use so much of this stuff. It's so handy on arm holes and instead of neck facing. You can buy some really cute stuff out there, like this and this, but I've also read a lot about making your own.

This blog post by Megan Nielson is brilliant, a really great tutorial, but I mixed it up a bit with this post from The Coletterie as I don't have a one of those handy little tape guider tools, and this is what I came up with.....

I think I'll be doing this with all of my left over scraps in future, it was so easy, you save a few pennies not having to go buy any and you can have any patterns you fancy.....win, win, win :)

Me Made May 13...Week 2...

2.1 Ditsy floral 1 hour skirt

(excuse the socks, I just had to use this pic....check out Betty!)

2.2 Heart print vest top

Week 2 Me Made Make...

Pyjama bottoms!
I cut up an old pair that were in need of throwing out and just cut around them and sewed them up with nice french seams inside. I added the cute little butterfly so I could tell which way round they needed to go on! They are supersoft and very cosy...perfect for this wonderful return of colder weather :(

Week 2 = another success, woop!!
